Since I work out of my garage and do odd jobs for friends, I needed a good quality portable lathe that I can lag around my SUV and bring wherever my job takes me.  But I was on a budget but didn’t want to buy crap, but couldn’t afford the really pricey lathes I keep seeing on Sears and Lowes.

Was I glad when I saw this JET 708360. I couldn’t believe it was priced less than a thousand. It seems to be a good quality lathe but the price was unbelievable.  I shopped around and did some research to make sure that this piece of equipment wasn’t junk and I was happy to find that the reviews of the lathe wasn’t half as bad as I expected from a relatively cheaper unit.

I ordered the lathe-via Amazon, unfortunately it wasn’t part of the free shipping but the additional $30 bucks really wasn’t a big deal.  What’s best is that the package arrived on schedule and without any damage neither on the packaging nor on the unit itself.

I was also happy that set up was a breeze, there was virtually no set up. It was also a wonder that everything flowed smoothly, it is quite easy to switch between the settingsand even the blade guard was easy to maneuver. I didn’t need to twist or bend or fight with the unit just to get things on or off.     

And although the unit looks heavy, it is surprisingly easy to maneuver and move about. It is not light by any standards but it is quite nimble and I didn’t have a hard time maneuvering it.

The gravity stand of this JET 708360 unit is also heavy duty and easy to assemble. The blades are very durable and it has a quality standard, I have cut a variety of hard wood on it without having any problems at all.
